Kalorikoll Privacy Policy

Kalorikoll is a local-first app for calories, food logging, weight and nutrition goals. The app requires no account and has no server of its own.

Data stored locally

The app may store the following data on your phone:

This data is used to display summaries, history, charts, calculated goals, BMI if enabled, exports and backups.

Health Connect

If you choose to connect Health Connect, Kalorikoll can, with the permissions you grant, read calories burned, read and write weight, and read and write nutrition records. The data is used to summarise your activity, weight and nutrition in the app and to sync the records you choose.

Health Connect is optional. You can choose which permissions the app receives and revoke them at any time in Health Connect or Android settings. Kalorikoll does not send this data to any server of its own.

Built-in food data

Kalorikoll works offline with locally bundled food data from the Swedish Food Agency (Sweden), Matvaretabellen (Norway), Fineli (Finland), FCDB (Denmark), CoFID (UK), USDA (US), BLS (Germany), Anses Ciqual (France), and an Open Food Facts subset containing products from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, the UK, Germany and France. These data sources are included with the app and do not require your personal information to be sent anywhere.

Network access and external sources

The app has internet permission for Open Food Facts searches, selected Gemini Cloud analysis and Firebase services. AICore may also need internet access to prepare local analysis. If you choose to search online, your search terms or barcode are sent to Open Food Facts to find food information.

The app does not send your food diary, profile, weight logs, goals, custom foods or recipes to any server of its own.

Local photo analysis with Gemini Nano

Photo analysis uses the ML Kit Prompt API and Android AICore when Gemini Nano is supported. Local inference does not upload the photo. Photos and drafts are held temporarily in memory for capture and review. Identified foods are matched against your selected local food databases. You can edit matches and quantities; no diary entries are saved until you confirm.

AICore may need internet access to prepare the service or download and update the model. The app offers a download button when needed. Gemini Cloud is a separate choice, including on phones without Nano. You select the model in settings or the camera dialog; the app does not switch to the cloud automatically.

Optional photo analysis with Gemini Cloud

Gemini Cloud is implemented as a separate model choice and works without Gemini Nano support. It requires internet access. By default, the app asks for permission for each photo before making the request. You can remember permission or select Allow in settings, and switch back to Ask every time later. Without permission or a saved Allow choice, no photo is sent.

The photo is rotated and resized to at most 1024 pixels on its longest edge, then sent with analysis instructions to the Google Gemini Developer API through Firebase AI Logic. Instructions include the display language and the languages of your selected food sources. Your diary, profile, weight logs and local database files are not attached.

Kalorikoll does not write the photo to Firebase Storage or its own image server. Photos and suggestions are held temporarily in memory during capture and review. This does not mean that Google never stores data. Google's processing is governed by the Gemini API terms and Firebase AI Logic data governance information.

The AI response is an editable suggestion of foods and estimated grams. Nutrition comes from the local database records you select. Nothing is added to the diary before you confirm logging.

The app has a local limit of ten started cloud attempts per calendar day. The counter, model choice and permission choice are stored on the device. Failed and cancelled attempts also count. This limit is per installation and is not a project-wide spending cap.

Google may process and log requests for security and abuse prevention under its terms. Kalorikoll’s handling of the photo in memory therefore does not promise zero retention by Google.

Sharing

If you share a summary, its contents are passed to the app or recipient you select in Android’s share menu.

Export, backup and deletion

An export is only created when you choose to export. It is saved to the location you select in Android's system dialog and contains CSV files, a short information file and a JSON backup that can be imported into the app again.

A backup is only imported when you select a backup file. Importing replaces the app's existing personal data with the contents of that file.

Android Backup is enabled for the app. This means Android's system backup may back up and restore app data according to your device and Google Account settings.

You can delete personal data in the app under Settings > Data and privacy. You can also delete the food log and/or weight log for an individual day from the history.

Sources

The app uses food data from the Swedish Food Agency, Matvaretabellen, Fineli, FCDB, CoFID, USDA, BLS, Anses Ciqual and Open Food Facts. Open Food Facts is used both as a bundled data source and as an optional external online source.
